Sounds like a good name for a rock band, The Freemason Apron. But really, what is the origin of the Freemason apron? While I was reading about the ancient Hittites and what they were up to several thousand years ago with their horned helmets and their aprons, the horns representing their bull-cult, I couldn’t help but be reminded of the Freemasons. With the Hittites, the more horns they had, the more seniority they possessed. The Hittites also carried horn-shaped weapons and their pointed shoes were meant to resemble bull’s horns. The Hittite’s male “gods” wear an apron too.
This website, www.hillcrestlodge397.com, explains it: “As a badge of honor, the Lambskin Apron spells out honesty of purpose, integrity, uprightness of character, and soundness of moral principle.”
