The Royal With a Bible and a Chain

King Henry XIII ordered that all churches have a bible chained to a desk. The reason it was chained was because back in 1537 bibles were costly. During the 1200’s the price for building two arches of the London Bridge was $125.00 and the cost for a copy of the bible was $150.00.

Where Did the Word Church Come From?

The word “church” comes from two Greek phrases. One of the Greek phrases means “to be called out” and the other means “belonging to the Lord”. Together the phrases are meant to signify “called out of the world and joined to the Lord”.

US Army Review of Nazi Industrial Developments

When WWII broke out, more than 40% of Germany’s working population was employed in industry. The country realized the value of scientific research in regard to industry and made tremendous progress, which the Nazis shuffled into military progress enabling Germany to build modern military tanks, bombs and rockets. After the war, the United States Army’s Field Information Agency, Technical, known as FIAT, had German scientists prepare a review of Germany’s Science programs. This review disclosed advances the Germans had made during WWII. In all, 84 volumes were published.

The Responsibility of an Iranian Spinster

It was enough that before technology a European woman was required to spin and weave the family sheets, tablecloths, napkins and undergarments but nothing can beat the Iranian woman who spun goat hair and made thick fibers that were then woven into tents they called home. The nomadic lifestyle was not an easy one but thanks to these women, their families were sheltered from the heat and cold of the desert through their spinning and weaving. I have not witnessed the Bedouin tribes of Iran but I would not be surprised if many a nomadic Iranian woman still proudly “builds” the home.

What Does Spinster Mean?

We often hear the term, “Spinster” used to refer to a woman who is advanced in years and has not yet married. These days our attitudes toward this have changed enormously but in years past, the reason for this term was that before the Industrial Revolution, in many parts of Europe it was customary that a bride would spend her days weaving linen for her marriage. Married couples back then were dependent upon the home craftsperson to provide linens for the bed, a tablecloth, napkins and linens for personal wear. A young woman was not ready to be a wife until she had spun and woven the necessary articles and while doing so was called a “spinster”.

A Famous Gypsy Read the Palm of the Prince

Years ago, a famous gypsy by the name of Britannia Lovell read the palm of Prince George. He paid her five pounds for it and is said to have given her a “hearty kiss” afterwards. Originating in Greece and Rome’s ancient oracles, fortune-telling has been a large part of the Gypsy culture. Historical records also show that the Queen of Spain and a Russian Empress had their fortunes told by Gypsies.

Gypsies Beneficial to Ancient Villages

Highly skilled in making horseshoes, the Gypsies were often welcomed into villages. They would come into a village, stay awhile making shoes for horses and iron cookware, and then move on to the next village. Their traveling caravans even made their way into Ireland where they shared one of their other “gifts”, that of fortune-telling.

What Is A Gypsy?

The English Gypsies call themselves “Romany”, never Gypsy. Probably the most typical example of a Gypsy is found amongst the Spanish, “Gitanos”. They love music. They sing and dance the flamenco, play the violin and especially the accordion. Quite notable for their nomadic nature, even today the silhouettes of Gypsy caravans can be seen against the setting sun in the picturesque fields of French farms.

The Legend of the Gypsy Who Stole the Crucifixion Nail

SecretGenealogyFrontCover

The Gypsies were skilled Blacksmiths and there’s a legend that goes along with that part of their history. The story is that a Gypsy made the four nails for the Cross of Jesus. But the Gypsy Blacksmith stole one of the nails. The story continues that God then granted this Gypsy’s descendants the right to steal when they needed to. Paintings of the Crucifixion began showing three nails instead of four at about the same time period Gypsies arrived in Europe.
